Juvenile Delinquency

July 21, 2009

I was on my way home walking in the streets of Sta. Mesa, Mla. when my college memoirs flashed into my mind. I was surprised to see myself walking in the same streets again just as I did in the past 4 years (I took a 4-year course and graduated on time. yabang!). The last time I walked in those streets was the last time I called myself a student. It’s so good to see that, whoa, I finished the game called schooling and now playing the game called life. Walking in these streets were different this time around. I can now see the artistic and geometric beauty of the LRT2 as it smoothly glides through the curves of it’s rails which leads to Santolan. I can now enter 7-11, buy a bottle of Yakult and a pack of Hello Wafers and eat inside the store without the worries of being late in a subject or how much I should spent on food. But the best thing about it is to look and listen to the next generation of students not as a co-student but as a professional.

While being able to oversee the younger generation is the best part of playing the game called life, it also is the worst part. And 1 bottle of Yakult, 1 hello Wafer Stick and a comfy seat in 7-11 at the back of 3 high school girls proved it right. The 3 girls, I know the school they’re attending, and by the time I was (or we were) in 7-11, I knew already, these 3 girls have skipped they’re first classes. I can’t help but to eavesdrop and be tsismoso to the 3 girls. I wonder what they have to talk about after skipping their first classes.

*END OF MY EAVESDROPPING*

So that’s the fruitful topic for the day, the perfect reason to skip the class right? And guess what, we 4 are not the only ones inside the store, and the girls are not speaking quietly. Right after I finished my snack, i gathered my things already and left the place at once, I was planning to read my new book on the store, but with those 3, I think I can’t manage to bite and chew the thoughts that are about to be given by my book. Still on my way to the Jeepney station, I walked through a group of guys, (yes in the same school, and yes skipped classes also), I was trying to fathom the 3 girls I just heard when my ears once again send my brain another series of signals.

boyA: “%$^! mamaya yari ka sakin!”
boyB: “sige labas mo pa favorite hero mo! punuin mo pa ng butterfly tyka MKB, kain ka parin!”
boyC: “pustahan ba? malaki nahingi kong baon”

The conversation ended as I walked pass them. By that small conversation, I knew already (as a gamer) that they are talking about DOTA, a PC game. So again, that is they’re fruitful reason for skipping a class,

Well, I don’t say that all the younger generation are like these people mentioned above. But if you find yourself among one of those, please, I beg you, for your parents sake, Mag aral muna kayo. Love the education which is all yours for the taking. You know what’s making the Philippines’ run for it’s money? Everyone like the people mentioned above.

Now as a graduate, i can say that life is more than just relationships, sex, video games and uber entertainment. Yes it is good to relax, but as the word itself says (’re’ is the greek term for ‘again’, and ‘laxari’ is for ‘loose’), to relax is to loosen once again, not loosen always. Remember, God created the Sabath day for resting and relaxing, sometimes you also have a once-a-week break or a free Saturday, aren’t those days sufficient to relax or loosen once again?
